Management Changes

Harold here. I have managed all aspects of Iron Lava Corp since inception in January 2001. This August I started a two year program at the University of Calgary to attain a Master’s Degree in Social Work specializing in International and Community Development.  While it is definitely a stretch from our branding and web services, I am enjoying school immensely.

Business is still important to me and I am pleased that Aron Hill has taken on most management functions for Iron Lava Corp.  I’ve known him for quite some time and am confident he will improve customer service. Aron is also an artist who works with multiple media and has his own industrial design clients.  So far, Aron has created the web design for Kids Photography Academy and an endodontics site that will go live in the coming weeks.

Mark, Bailey, Doug and the rest of the Iron Lava Corp team will also continue in their essential roles with design, programming and social media writing.

To learn more about Aron’s background, you can find him on LinkedIn at

You can reach Aron at (403) 984-3959 or toll free at (877) 250-6300.

Thanks to all our clients and vendors. I look forward to continuing our business relationships.

Going Mobile: Why You Need A Mobile Site

Iron Lava Corp Website vs Mobile ComparisonJust look around. How many people do you see with smartphones and other smart devices? All those people are potential customers and you want to make it easy for them to visit your website, right?

Problem is, if you have a website that’s built for regular computers, it likely won’t display properly on a smartphone. Worse, some elements may not even function.

If you had to choose between two suppliers and one had a website that worked on your smartphone and the other one didn’t, who would you choose?

Make it easy for your current and potential customers to engage with you by having a mobile web presence that’s optimized for smartphones.

Need more convincing? Here’s what the Google “Our Mobile Planet Initiative 2012” report says about smartphone use in Canada:

Smartphones have become an indispensable part of our daily lives. Smartphone penetration is currently at 33% of the population. 60% access the Internet every day on their smartphone and most never leave home without it.

Appearing on smartphones is critical for local businesses. 87% of smartphone users look for local information on their phone and 89% take action a result.

Smartphones are critical shopping tools with 69% having researched a product or service on their device. Smartphone research influences buyer decisions and purchases. 20% of smartphone users have made a purchase on their phone.

Smartphones help advertisers connect with consumers. Mobile ads are noticed by 86% of smartphone users.

Smartphones are also a critical component of traditional advertising as 57% of smartphone users have performed a search on their device after seeing an offline ad.

Search engine optimization is critical: 64% of smartphone users look only at the first page on search results. That’s where you need to be.

Introducing RebelMouse

RebelMouse LogoThat’s not Mighty Mouse you see in the graphic above. It’s actually the mascot for RebelMouse, a new social media offering that wants to be your social front page. The web-based platform lets you connect your social networks to create a fluid page of your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram feeds. It’s basically an aggregator, but a beautiful one.

RebelMouse was founded by Paul Berry, the former chief technology officer at the Huffington Post. The company’s concept for RebelMouse “is based on the idea that people are proud of what they share on social networks, but are starting to feel embarrassed about their websites. RebelMouse creates your social front page, building a dynamic site around what you share.

The RebelMouse page updates itself constantly with content from your feeds. But, you can tweak the page by adding your own links, editing content and move things around. You can even create slideshows.

It’s easy to create RebelMouse pages for different feeds or any combination of feeds. So, a page for your company might not include your personal feeds, but a page for you might include company feeds AND personal feeds. You can also follow #hashtags and include their content as well.

Here’s what the Iron Lava Corp page looks like:

Iron Lava Corp RebelMouse Page

RebelMouse is free, but the company plans to offer paid plans. A $3/month plan for individuals with custom domain ( and a $3/week corporate plan for businesses with a custom domain (

You can also add a RebelMouse “feed” widget to your blog or website by cut and pasting code from your RebelMouse page. Here’s what ours looks like:

Stick It Burron

And, if you’d like to add content directly to your RebelMouse page from the web, you can add a “stick this” button to your favourite browser.

RebelMouse is constantly evolving with new features and options. It’s an easy and attractive way to help get your clients interested in your social media feeds and display them all in one spot.
